I’m Ben O’Reilly, the founder of Symington Financial. I’m an asset finance specialist dedicated to finding practical, effective solutions for my clients.
My passion for business and finance began at 16. This drive led me to study a Bachelor of Business (Finance) at Massey University in New Zealand. I excelled in my studies, being appointed class advocate and joining the Massey Investment Club, but I quickly realized my true passion wasn’t in theory; it was on the front line. I was eager to get hands-on experience in sales and the financial services sector.
I followed that passion into a high-energy sales role for a crypto investment firm. For over two years, I honed my skills in tenacity and negotiation, which all started from a chance meeting with the owner—a mentor who saw my passion and gave me my first opportunity.
While sales taught me how to get a “yes,” I was equally determined to understand the “why” behind the “no.” I spent two years as a remediation analyst in the banking sector. This role gave me an invaluable, behind-the-scenes understanding of lending compliance and credit assessment.
My journey then led me to a campaign management role for a global communications company, where I managed high-end B2B clients. This experience was a masterclass in effective communication, stakeholder management, and navigating complex compliance frameworks.
After four successful years in New Zealand, I returned home to my family in Adelaide and found the role that connected every piece of my experience: working for an asset finance brokerage.
This was the first time my passion for finance, my drive for sales, and my deep knowledge of compliance came together. I loved the challenge of unique applications, the joy of meeting business owners, and the genuine gratitude from clients I was able to help.
